On Saturday, Lois, Madeline and I headed to the Fiber Garden in Black River
Falls for a class on dyeing wool. It was a fabulous experience as always.
Deb Jones introduced our group to a variety of techniques and the endless
possibilities of color combinations. We are now well equipped to dye our own
wool and experiment with all our fiber. Thank you for a great day, Deb!
While we were in Texas one of our ewes prolapsed. Megan and our vet took
great care of her but prolapsing is a rough condition for sheep. We were sur-
prised and blessed that her twin lambs were born alive and are now thriving in
our mud room. Their names are Nathan and Allie. The ewe lamb has the most
unusual markings we have ever seen on a Suffolk. The lamb total stands at 24
but that could change by morning.

The farm is covered in mud and slush which means spring in on the way.
Last month we sold our old maple syrup evaporator and upgraded to a lar-
ger and more efficient set up that will increase production buy at least thir-
ty percent. While the Sugar Shack was empty, Larry leveled the floor with
sand and laid concrete silo staves to make it safer and more stable. We
called in the local muscle to unload the new evaporator and get it set in
place. Yesterday Larry, MJ, Gus and I put in 140 taps. The weather fore-
cast looks fantastic. Let the sap flow…
Larry and I both had the opportunity to speak at separate Father and Son
weekends at Frontier Camp in Grapeland, Texas. Larry brought his brother,
Roger, and I brought Becky and MJ. We all had a great time with the men
and their sons and the staff of FC. MJ learned how to say y’all, made new
friends and experienced a lot of firsts. It was truly a privilege to partner in
ministry with them. We are excited to see their ministry grow and thrive.
A simple painting project quickly turned into a two week remodel when we
decided to texturize the walls and replace the trim in the guest house. Our
board president, Todd Ericson, got us off to a very good start but we had to
call in the big guns to finish the job. Mike and Sandy and Gary all came to
lend a hand with tearing out the old trim, hanging plastic, taping, spraying,
painting, hanging new trim and cleaning. We are sincerely grateful for their
help (and especially for the Giordano’s pizza that Gary brought to keep us
going).
